It is true that modern or current cars are more reliable than before. However, it does not mean that we can just drive, leave them there in the garage, rinse, and repeat. We cannot. We still need to provide them with a bit of care and elbow grease.
And since it is a brand new year, we believe that your car is deserving of some TLC. It is either you let us do it, or you do it. If you choose the latter, here is a checklist that you might find useful.
- Check your tires. They must be inflated, no signs of punctures, and have the right air pressure if you are using pneumatic. Be syre to check the sidewalls and treads for wear. Make sure your spare tire is in good condition, too.
- Inspect your car’s exterior. Look for damaged, loose, or missing parts. Of course, remove snow and ice first.
- Look at your car’s windows. Search cracks and pits. Double check on the wipers if there is damage.
- Examine if there are leaks. Check the engine, fuel tank, rear axle, and transmission.
- Check the headlights, taillights, turn signals, and license plates for any damage. And see if the lights are operational.
- Check your mileage and see if your oil level. Add or replace oil if necessary. Also, check your coolant, brake, power steering, and transmission fluid level as well while you are at it.
- Inspect the engine. Look for cracks or softness on the hoses. Check the belt for damage, fraying, or looseness.
- Then check your exhaust system for loose or damaged parts.
- Be sure that the interior and exterior rearview mirrors are aligned and in good condition.
- Check for battery leaks, and clean the main wires and terminals.
- See if the rear and front suspensions needs realignment.
- Check if your emergency kit and jack are there and are okay.
Just in case you have not done these yet:
- Ask for a tune up.
- Have your AC and heater serviced.
- Change transmission filter and flush fluid.
- Change windshield wiper blades.
