Things happen fast on the road (unless you are stuck in traffic). And one mistake can cost a huge accident that might cost you your car and even your life. Because of that, we need to be good defensive drivers to prevent accidents.   Here are four quick tips to help you become one or become a better defensive driver.

Avoid Distractions

You are on the road. Just focus on driving. Never divert your attention to other things. And do not give yourself any reason that can make your head turn or eyes look at a different direction. Your car, trip, and the road already have a lot of distractions; do not add more.

Do Not Trust Other Drivers on the Road

We are not saying that you should treat and think of other drivers as complete idiots. Just do not expect that they are perfect drivers who can fully follow and respect traffic rules and drive safely. Some can be inexperienced. Some might be having a bad day. And some might be really complete idiots. Do not worry; some of them think like this about you when they see you on the road.

Respect Other Drivers and Pedestrians

Despite the previous tip, you still need to give the other drivers some respect even if they do not respect you. If they are driving slow, do not just cut your way in in front of them or tailgate them. Also, when somebody’s crossing the road, even if there is no Ped Xing, just let them be. You cannot afford to get distracted and become hotheaded.

Improve Your Driving Skills

No, no, no. We are not telling you to become race track drivers (although that is too beneficial). You just need to become a better driver. You need to be capable of having full control of your vehicle’s speed, etcetera, etcetera.
